I have just become aware of the impending launch of Short Sharp Digital, a new industry group/creative hub for “digital screen media producers” on the Mid North Coast of NSW.

Because at the time of writing (30 November 2011), not much information is out there yet about this group, I decided to write this blog post about it, so maybe a few more people on the Coffs Coast will become aware of it.

“We want the Mid North Coast to be a first class digital hot spot for talent and digital content,” says Christina Hyde, one of the people behind Short Sharp Digital.

Apparently a big reason behind the launch of the new network is the arrival of super-fast internet in Coffs Harbour next year, or in the words of the organisers: “the NBN is coming and we are getting ready to be part of this expanding digital future.”

Short Sharp Digital says the new industry/networking group will be for digital industry practitioners in the fields of:

• Web
• TV
• Mobile
• Audio production
• Animation
• Education
• Game design
• Writing
• Production
• App development

Now this is quite a wide and varied field and I am unsure exactly what the industry group is going to be doing. But I guess the launch event on Tuesday 6 December should make that a bit clearer.

I also have no idea how the organisers are reaching out to potential members to join the network, or even to just be aware of and come along to the launch event. However, they are asking people who do know about it to forward the invite to any “digital screen practitioners” (what an awkward term…) on the Mid North Coast who may be interested in this. So that’s what I’m doing.

I for one am planning to go to the launch event, just to hear what it’s all about. It would be good to meet some fellow Coffs Coast/Mid North Coast web professionals there.
